Past Events 2004
The Oxford and Cambridge Dining Club of Geneva held the following events in 2004:
25 February 2004: Ms Jamby Djusubalieva, a journalist accredited to the UN, was our after-dinner speaker. She gave us a talk, illustrated with slides, about her native country Kyrgyzstan.
- 28 March 2004: At our traditional Boat Race Dinner we viewed a video of last year's Boat Race. A prize was presented to the person who made the closest forecast of the result (but nobody forecast the incredible mix-up during the
race!).
- 28 April 2004:
Dinner at the restaurant Port Gitana in Bellevue with guest speaker Isobel Shaw , travel writer and President of our Club in 2003.
Isobel showed slides of her recent sponsored walk in Afghanistan with
TV presenter and journalist Sandy Gall raising funds for Sandy Gall's Afghanistan Appeal in aid of land mine victims.
- 8 June 2004: Dinner at the Geneva Golf-Club in Cologny.
- 7 July 2004: Cocktail evening at the café Grütli.
- 16 September 2004: Dinner at a Thai restaurant in Carouge.
- 20 October 2004: Dinner at the Restaurant Vieux-Bois, a
hotel school in Geneva with excellent cuisine and service. Our after-dinner speaker was Professor Roger Cashmore, CMG, a distinguished physicist. He was until recently Director of Research at CERN (the European Centre for Nuclear Research, in
Geneva) and is now Principal of Brasenose College, Oxford. He spoke about "CERN and Oxford University - International institutions".
- 15 December 2004: "Christmas Dinner" and Annual General Meeting at which we elected our Committee for the coming year. Our traditional Christmas Dinner is held at the Cercle de la Terrasse, an elegant and comfortable private club in Geneva.
